Larry Scott Workout
Vince Gironda said about Larry Scott "The world still regards Larry Scott as one of the greatest champions that bodybuilding has ever known. And I had the honor of being his trainer."
Larry Dee Scott started his life in Pocatello, Idaho, born to Thea and Wayne Scott on 12th October 1938. Larry started training at the age of 16 and by the time he was 20 years old had won Mr. Idaho in 1959. This win motivated him and he moved to California, where he won Mr. California in 1960, Mr. Pacific Coast in 1961 and Mr. America in 1962.
But Larry was just getting started because he went on to win the coveted Mr. Universe title in 1964. By this time, he had developed the nickname of "The Legend" and was also well known as "The Golden Boy."
In the bodybuilding world Larry Scott became famous when he won the first inaugural Mr. Olympia competition held in 1965, which he then defended successfully a year later in 1966 before he finally retired. But despite Larry's weak shoulder genetics he created an awesome pair of 20 inch guns which on his 210lb body-weight that is only 5"7' tall, makes them look huge.
Great biceps usually come in two different shapes: those with very sharp peaks when they're flexed and those biceps that are peak-free, because they seem to just spring out the forearms. In the 1960s, Larry Scott was celebrated for his peak-free huge biceps that he attributes to the invention of the preacher curls which he did together with Vince Gironda.
The two of them named it the preacher curl because the movement was done on a slanted pulpit like that of a preacher. During the 60's and 70's the preacher curl became known as the Scott curl as Larry's fame and fortune started to grow after his second Mr. Olympia win.
While doing preacher curls, or Scott curls, won't actually change your DNA structure, doing this movement will lock both your arms into place so as to create more tension with full range of motion. "Preachers" can be done using a wide variety of grips, from hammer (palms facing each other), reverse preacher curls (palms down). Both of these movements will target your brachialis in your forearms and biceps a lot more effectively. Whether you use preacher curls with a normal barbell, a eZ-curl bar or one or two dumbbells or a cable holding a D-handle, or even a pulley.
Larry Scott would train the following biceps routine when he would hit his biceps, it should be noted that this biceps routine would be used whenever he trained his biceps. Whether Larry trained his biceps after his back or with his triceps he would always make sure that he did the following sets and reps for his biceps.
