Denny Miller Workout

Vince Gironda said about Denny Miller "Besides being a good actor, this blond giant has worked hard to achieve a remarkable physique."

Denny Scott Miller was born Dennis Linn Miller on April 25th 1934 was a successful American actor, best known for his role as Duke Shannon on Wagon Train, with a few guest appearances on Gilligan's Island, plus his 1959 role in a Tarzan film. Denny followed in his father’s footsteps where he studied physiology at UCLA.

Denny became a successful basketball player playing for UCLA. His father was a physical instructor at UCLA. In his last year of study Denny worked as a part-time job moving furniture to help pay for school. It was while he was moving furniture on Sunset Boulevard that a Hollywood agent saw him and later signed him up with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.

Denny then became the first Tarzan who was blond in his Tarzan the Ape Man movie launched in 1959 billing him as "MGM's new sensational young star!" Although he signed with MGM to do three Tarzan movies he only did one because in Denny's own words it was just a terrible movie.

But before Denny started filming his first role as Tarzan the ape man he was told by his director to gain as much muscle on his body as he could. Denny went to the only many who could help, the Iron Guru, Vince Gironda. Denny was working all day shooting the movie so Vince gave him keys for the gym so he could work-out after hours.

It was hard work training the intense program that Vince has prescribed but as the American public saw for themselves, it worked. The movie put Denny amongst the card-carrying Tarzan members, Denny jokingly calls the PTA "the Past Tarzans Association".

Training with weights was not a new concept to Denny who had actually been training at his home gym for years. What he needed from Vince was guidance on exactly how to train so that he could get results that he can see. Vince started him on his usual 4 X 4, 6 X 6 and then his 8 X 8 routine.
